The Kelantan Health Department (JKN) is deploying 87 teams, comprising 181 health inspectors, to conduct regular checks at 62 Ramadan bazaar locations across the state this year.

Its director, Datuk Dr Mohd Azman Yacob, said random food samples will be taken and sent to the lab to ensure vendors meet hygiene standards.

“Food samples will be taken routinely and not only in response to food poisoning cases,” he told reporters after officiating the state-level World Cancer Day at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital today.

Dr Mohd Azman added that the department will work with local authorities and has briefed vendors, including giving typhoid shots two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, commenting on the programme, he said breast cancer was the most recorded in Kelantan, accounting for 25 per cent of the 6,172 cases reported between 2017 and 2021.

“This is driven by greater public awareness in Kelantan about early screening, along with more effective cancer detection technology being used to diagnose different types of cancer.

“This has also led the Kelantan JKN to boost public awareness, urging people to stay on top of their health and consult a doctor at the first sign of symptoms,” he added.
