Fine Against China Hotel After 140 Fall Ill

August 20, 2012

On Saturday, a five-star China Hotel in Hainan province was fined 618,000 yuan (around $97,000) after 141 people fell ill after eating breakfast there.

The Sanya City Food and Drug Administration also confiscated materials used to make the food, Xinhua reported.

The 141 vacationers were sent to hospital after they fell ill following breakfast at the Howard Johnson Hotel last Sunday.

Salmonella was detected in samples from the food.
