Nap Nanny Recliners Recalled Following Infant Deaths

December 31, 2012

Nearly 150,000 of ‘Nap Nanny Baby recliners’ have faced a recall by four national retailers at the request of the Consumer Product Safety Commission after reports of atleast five infant deaths with the use of these products.

Four national retailers,, Toys R Us/Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby and have acted fast and recalled the recliners to avert potential risks to infants.

The companies confirmed that Nap Nanny Generations One and Two, as well as the Chill model of the recliner have faced a recall as per the directives of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The government agency has found defects in the design, warnings and instructions in some of the products and this can be extremely risky for infants.

Leslie Gudel, owner of Nap Nanny Maker Baby Matters, explained the company’s stance via a note the company’s website which said, “The ongoing battle with the CPSC cost us so much money that it forced us out of business. The loss of an infant is an unthinkable tragedy, and I am truly heartbroken for the families who have lost a child. But the fact that infants have died ‘while using’ the Nap Nanny improperly, such as when used in a crib where the child could suffocate on a crib bumper or a blanket, does not mean our product caused the child’s death or is hazardous.”
