CAREhab-SG Rehab Conference 2020 dedicated to “elevate Asia’s healthcare standards”

January 8, 2020

Asia’s CAREhab is back again this year – the 2020 run will be held in conjunction with the 6th Singapore Rehabilitation Conference (14th to 15th February) at Singapore EXPO’s Max Atria. Partnering with SingEx Exhibitions and Singapore’s Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (SRMS), the CAREhab-Singapore Rehabilitation Conference looks set to bring together the entire healthcare community to address industry challenges, showcase good practices and encourage collaboration, particularly in the SEA region. Among the many topics that will be covered in the two-day conference includes the much talked-about neuro rehab, amputee rehab, spinal cord injury rehab, and paediatric rehab.

The conference will feature over 60 renowned speakers in healthcare from across the world, including the likes of international visionaries such as Professor Fary Khan, Director of Rehabilitation Services at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and local medical professionals like Associate Professor Peter Lim, Senior Consultant in Rehabilitation at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), and Dr. Effie Chew, Senior Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, Neurology, at National University Hospital Singapore.

Notable speaker highlights include a motivational plenary lecture, “Ten Little Things,” by Professor James McDeavitt from Baylor College of Medicine, US, and others detailing machine learning/assistance and treatment and management of individual rehabilitation programmes in care centres.  Singapore’s first female sports physician, Dr. Teoh Chin Sim, Senior Consultant and Clinical Director of the Sports Medicine Centre at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, will also be discussing spinal cord injuries among sports professionals and the rehabilitation solutions they necessitate.

A common thread at the conference this year is independence – from a heart-warming performance by stroke survivors and aphasia patients of the Aphasia Singapore choir to an anecdotal sharing session by Singaporean paraathlete Aaron Yeo, delegates can “expect a carefully curated, strong academic programme” which aspires to exemplify a patient’s journey towards reintegrating into society.

Jeong Han Lee, Cluster Director, Sustainability, at SingEx Exhibitions, exclaims: “SingEx Exhibitions is delighted to be co-organising CAREhab 2020 with SRMS, an association that we have been creating synergies with from the very beginnings of the show in years past. With healthcare professionals from around the world gathering in one space, we are looking forward to facilitating new conversations and collaborations within the industry.”

In addition to an exhibition component that is free-to-attend, the collaborative platform not only engages homecare givers, medical professionals and members of the public who relate with rehabilitation in some way, but also draws innovators and industry disruptors to contribute to improving healthcare efficiency in the region.

According to the Organising Chairperson of the 6th Singapore Rehabilitation Conference, Professor Geoffrey Samuel of SGH: “This year’s programme will be a basis for developing national rehabilitation programmes in light of the national agenda put forward by the Ministry of Health to better support the rehab needs of Singaporeans, while also highlighting these achievements to our regional colleagues.”(CAREhab – Singapore Rehabilitation Conference 2020 is to welcome Guest of Honour, Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Singapore).

Meanwhile, through the various continuous learning opportunities for professional development available at the conference, doctors in Singapore will be able to earn CME (continuing medical education) points while nurses can receive CPE (continuing professional education) points.
