Increasing cases of food poisoning in future

May 7, 2014

In four first months of the year, Vietnam has 38 food poisoning cases causing nearly 1,200 people to be hospitalized and 15 people succumbed to the disease. The administration said food poisoning cases are on upward trend.

Compared to the same period last year, the figures of poisoning cases, hospitalized people and deaths have increased. The cause of food poisoning is due to food contaminated with microorganism and toxic substance in nature.

Most of food poisoning cases take place after a party such as wedding party, death anniversary and festivals. In addition, the increased number of people was poisoned due to eating wild and toxic mushrooms collected from the local forest, Ballon fish, and horseshoe crab.

Dr. Lam Quoc Hung from the Vietnam Food Administration warned of an upward trend of cases of food poisoning in the next time due to hot weather and shortage of fresh water to clean cooking equipment.
