Eating rice is good for you

A study published in the journal Food and Nutrition Sciences found that eating rice – white or brown – yielded health benefits.

The study, led by Theresa Nicklas, of Baylor College of Medicine, was based on an analysis of datasets from the 2005 – 2010 findings of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. She evaluated the link between rice consumption and overall health among 12, 386 US adults.

Nicklas found that those who consumed rice had a diets in line with the US Dietary Guidelines recommendations, and also higher amounts of magnesium, iron, potassium, fibre and folate, and less fat and added sugars. Those who consumed rice were also more likely to eat more fruits, vegetables, beans and meat.

Furthermore, rice provided an increased feeling of fullness, thus adding to its benefits.
