Teens underestimate danger of smoking, study says
A nationwide study US found that youths tend to underestimate the dangers of smoking
Asked whether they knew that heavy smoking was bad for them, almost 90 % of teenagers said yes. But when asked whether light smoking was also harmful, only 64 % said yes.
“Even the occasional cigarette truly is bad for you. Light and intermittent smokers face tremendous future health risks,” lead author Stephen M. Amrock of the New York University School of Medicine said.
But the researchers are optimistic.
They say that by increasing awareness among youths about the danger of smoking will make it easier for youths to quit smoking.
