Mali is now Ebola-free

The West African country Mali has been declared Ebola-free by its health minister after 42 days of no new cases.

“I declare on this day, Jan. 18, 2015, the end of the end of the Ebola epidemic in Mali,” Ousmane Koné said, thanking healthcare workers for helping eradicating the virus.

Ebola has killed six people in Mali, a low number compared to neighbouring countries Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia which saw 8, 4000 people killed, the World Health Organisation said.
