Laos, Thailand firm up joint response to cross-border disease threats
Growing cross-border travel and trade between Laos and Thailand are prompting closer cooperation on public health emergencies, with authorities from both countries conducting a joint response exercise held this week, Tuesday to Wednesday.
The drill focused on testing systems for disease surveillance, emergency response, and coordination during infectious disease outbreaks. Participants also exchanged information and lessons from the exercise to strengthen future cross-border responses.
Souksavanh Vilayvong, President of the Champasak Provincial Administration Organization, said closer cooperation is increasingly important as movement between the two countries grows. He said regular joint exercises and systematic preparedness could reduce the health, economic, and social consequences of future disease outbreaks.
