New Clot Removal Device from Codman Neuro

June 18, 2013

Codman Neuro, part of J&J, has just received the CE Mark for the latest version of its REVIVE SE clot removal device.

The device has a nitinol mesh in a really small basket which is capable of expanding and reaching the vasculature in the brain to remove a thrombus blocking an artery.

This mesh proves to be a blessing in removing thrombi and emboli with aspiration. It also works well with injected contrast agents. A 0.021 micro-catheter is used to deliver the REVIVE SE, which offers a great channel through vasculature.

The original product had received approval in Europe in 2011, but FDA clearance is awaited.
