Malaysia to host Asean Safety and Health Workers Summit this year
Malaysia will host the Asean Safety and Health Workers Summit 2025, scheduled to take place from Aug 4 to Aug 5 this year, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim said.
He said the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) organises the safety and health workers summit annually.
However, this year, in line with Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship, the event will be elevated to the Asean level.
Sim added that the summit would serve as a valuable platform for Malaysia and its neighbouring countries to share best practices and exchange ideas on labour-related matters.

Present were Niosh chairman Chong Chien Jen and the ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Norison Ramli.
Meanwhile, Chong said several programmes will be held in conjunction with the summit, including the NIOSHCert International Standards Seminar 2025 (NISS2025), the Asian Occupational Safety and Health Research Institutes (AOSHRI) meeting, the 3rd Malaysia Research Initiative for National Agenda (MaRINA) 3.0 Workshop, and the Asean++ Workshop and Study Visit for participants from Asean member countries.
In line with Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship this year, he said it is crucial for Niosh to take a leading role in addressing emerging occupational safety and health challenges.
“These challenges now go beyond traditional physical hazards such as noise and light, encompassing chemical, biological, and economic risks associated with equipment and workplace postures.
“Additionally, psychosocial issues like stress and depression are becoming increasingly significant in our society and the evolving work environment,” he said.
