China eyes better health protection for firefightersRecognizing the high-risk nature of their jobs, China is seeking stronger health safeguards and benefits for firefighters and rescue workers, according to reports. Huang Haihuai, spokesman for the NPC Standing Committee’s Legislative Affairs Commission, said firefighters and rescue workers face high workplace risks as the country’s frontline emergency response force. He said the draft law includes stronger occupational health measures, such as regular physical exams and mental health services when needed.

The draft law on national fire and rescue workers is set for further review during a session of the NPC Standing Committee in Beijing. The proposal also outlines a dedicated rest and leave system for firefighters and rescue personnel. Huang said the framework would ensure workers receive statutory benefits such as annual leave and home-visit leave.
