1/4 of older Taiwanese have sleeping problems
TAIPEI, Taiwan – One in four people aged 65 and above has sleeping problems in Taiwan, a newspaper reported yesterday.
A survey of almost 800 people aged 65 and above by the Taiwan Society of Sleep Medicine (TSSM) shows that 51 percent of them have experienced insomnia, and 27 percent of them have sleeping problems more than three days a week, the United Evening News reported.
The newspaper cited doctors suggesting that people who suffer from insomnia for more than a month should seek medical advice and treatment.
Lin Chia-mo, chairman of TSSM, said sleeping problems get more serious with age, and women are more prone to suffer from these problems than men. More exercise during the day may help sleeping at night, the report said.
