Emergency response for cholera outbreak lifted in central China

WUHAN- An emergency response to a cholera breakout has been lifted in central China’s Hubei Province, as all confirmed cases have been cured, local health authorities said Monday.

All nine patients diagnosed with the disease have been cured and discharged from a local hospital, while nine others who initially tested positive for the disease have completed a medical observation period and returned to negative test results, according to a statement from the provincial health department.

No deaths were reported and no new infections have been found, it added.

The outbreak began in a hotel in the city of Huangshi on Oct. 3. All of the infected had attended a wedding banquet held at the hotel.

An investigation showed that a hotel restaurant employee who served cold dishes at the banquet was a cholera carrier, spreading the infection to some of the people who ate the dishes.
