Home of Peace to provide professional nursing care
KUCHING: Home of Peace, a charitable institution run by the Catholic Welfare Services Council Sarawak (CWS), located at JalanLandeh near here, will provide professional nursing service to its ailing and bed-ridden residents starting next year.
The home’s nursing wing is now in its final setting up and everything should be ready, including installations of necessary equipments such as nursing beds and patient hoists, before end of this year.
“Basically, we are now only doing the cleaning up while waiting for the equipments to arrive and we hope by Jan 1, 2014, we should be able to start our nursing wing,” Home of Peace manager Sister Ursula Lian asserted yesterday.
She told a media conference that for a start, they would engage three well-trained nurses to serve the home on full-time basis while for doctor service, occasionally they will have visiting doctors from the Kota Sentosa polyclinic to examine the patients.
“We are planning to have 12 electric nursing beds with side railings (six each for male and female patients) which costs around RM5,000 each unit and for patient hoist beds we are going to have two so altogether we will be having 14 beds at one single time,” she explained.
She said for the nursing
wing to start operation, they need more than RM160,000 on equipment alone and because of this they were appealing to generous members of the public to chip in and reduce their financial burden.
Ursula said donors could contribute towards their cause through CWS who will later channel the funds to them.
“All contributions by cheques or bank standing order should be made in favour of Catholic Welfare Services Council Sarawak while cash should be handed over personally to the CWS office at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre at JalanStampin,” she noted.
She said they were looking forward for public contribution especially now that their cost of operation starting next year will be more with the opening of the nursing wing.
“At present, our monthly operation cost is around RM12,000 but starting from next year, we estimated that it will increase to around RM20,000 a month,” she added.
She disclosed that the nursing wing too could have cost them a lot more if not for the free architectural service fee to do the renovation work.
“We are very grateful to individuals who have been willing to assist us without asking for any payment and we hope more will come forward to contribute in whatever ways and means they can,” he enthused.
Meanwhile, Ursula clarified that Home of Peace was strictly for the poor and destitute senior citizens aged 60 years and above, irrespective of race and religious backgrounds.
“We accept anyone who are genuinely poor and have no children to look after them but if they are from a rich family, we are not going to take them in because we do not want the home to be turned into a dumping ground,” she stated.
At the moment, the home housed nine residents, with three of them male and the rest female who are being looked after by nine members of staff including Ursula.
