International SOS warns travelers against counterfeit drugs on World Diabetes Day
New Delhi-International SOS has warned travelers against counterfeit drugs on World Diabetes Day and given some suggestions to diabetes patients for planning an overseas trip.
Regional Medical Director at International SOS Dr Doug Quarry warned that there is a significant amount of counterfeit medication being sold, particularly in developing countries, adding that in some cases 20-30 percent of pharmaceuticals are not genuine.
International SOS has issued guidance to international travelers on how to plan in advance and prepare for overseas trips as newer drugs might not be available at a tourist destination.
They suggest ensuring that one’s diabetes is stable and controlled before the trip, and carrying along plenty of medications to avoid taking the risk of trying to buy fresh supplies abroad.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) said that diabetes is a major threat to global public health with 6 percent of the world’s population getting affected from the ailment.
Diabetes is a condition where the amount of sugar in your blood is too high, because the body either does not make enough insulin, or can’t use it as well as it should.
