Japan to grant 11.7 mln USD to Cambodia for health development

PHNOM PENH – The Japanese government will sign up to provide 11.7 million U.S. dollars to Cambodia next week to help the country in its health sector development, according to a news statement from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Yuji Kumamaru will ink the grant aid agreement on March 26, the statement said.

The aid would be used for the expansion of the National Maternal and Child Health Center, it said.

Japan is one of the largest donors to Cambodia. Since 1992, Japanese loan and grant aid to Cambodia have amounted to more than 2 billion U.S. dollars, focusing on social and economic infrastructure development, health, education, agriculture, rural development and mine clearance.
