Enzymes for a healthier you
It’s the stuff of life, enzymes. Without enzymes, life as we know it would not exist.
Enzymes are proteins that act as a catalyst for chemical reactions in the body that are essential for life.
A simple example: enzymes help break down larger molecules of starch, fat and protein during digestion.
Enzymes are involved in all actions necessary to maintain life, such as synthesis and decomposition, digestion and absorption, transportation, excretion, breakdown of toxins, detoxification and supply of energy.
There are over 3,000 different types of enzymes created in the cells of the body, each with a unique function, and these help to drive the many chemical processes vital for the functioning of the body.
Although cells in the body manufacture its own enzymes, various factors can lead to an imbalance in enzyme levels, and this can affect body functions.
These include:
• Unhealthy diets and over-eating
• Too much processed foods
• Alcohol, smoking and other addictive substances
• Excessive stress and anxiety
• Pollution
• Sickness and ageing
In complementary health, enzymes are used to help with this imbalance, as well as cope with a range of problems, from digestive issues to injuries and arthritis.
These enzymes are generally used to help with reducing inflammation, aiding detoxification, maintaining efficient blood circulation, speeding up wound healing and even fighting infections.
Enzymes within
An example of enzymes used for health is the Ohtaka enzyme from Hokkaido, Japan, a natural, plant-based enzyme drink, fermented from more than 50 types of vegetables, fruits, herbs, seaweeds and mushrooms.
The Ohtaka formulation and fermentation process was patented in Japan in 1968, and the manufacturing plant was approved by the Japanese Ministry of Health for its cleanliness and fermentation process techniques.
This is used for detoxification purposes.
Enzymes without
The Enzyme Bath Therapy was first introduced in Japan in 1961, and it’s a detoxification process that involves soaking your body in a special bath that is made up of sawdust, rice bran and enzyme liquid.
The bath is kept at a temperature of around 70°C, and you soak in it for 10-20 minutes.
The trend is quite popular overseas, and many people say they’re transformed by it – feeling refreshed, relaxed and emerging with smooth and glowing skin.
The soak in the bath is said to affect enzyme activity throughout the body.
Blood circulation and metabolism are stimulated from the outside, giving a boost to the all the various organs in the body.
A word of caution: This bath is not recommended for those with high blood pressure (systolic above 200mmHg), pregnant or menstruating women or those who’ve just consumed alcohol.
