How to diet effectively

May 29, 2015

Here are some dos and don’ts in dieting.

1. Start your meals with a glass of warm water and some fruits.

By doing this, you will feel full and are less likely to overeat.

2. Stock only healthy food at home.

3. Stay busy

When your mind is focused on something, you are less likely to fill you time with mindless eating.

4. Up your fibre intake, especially in fruits and vegetables.

Not only are fruits and vegetables are high good in fibre, they’re also low in carbs which means you are less likely to retain water and be bloated. Also, the water in vegetables will help you flush out toxins and excess water from your system.

5. Avoid white bread and pasta.

These items wreak havoc in your system and add extra weight.

6.  Do some cardio.

Cardio exercise is any exercise that increases your heart rate, and is good at helping you lose weight. Do a half an hour of cardio every day to lose that weight.

Things to avoid

1. Skipping meals

Do not skip meals. Not eating during a meal hour will only make you binge during the next meal time, which makes you gain weight. Instead, aim for a few small meals during the day. If that is hard, aim for three meals a day.

2. Liquid calories

Stay away from drinks that are high in calories, such as smoothies, alcohol, yogurt drinks and sweetened fruit juices. Switch to plain water and 100 % fruit juices instead to rejuvenate yourself.

3.  Mindless eating

Ever caught yourself eating some “harmless” snacks during reading time, or picking from your child’s plate during cleaning-up? These fall under mindless eating, and can contribute to extra calories. Snack on carrot sticks or have a glass of water instead.

4. Fad diets

These diets do not deliver as they tend to deprive you of the nutrients you need.

5. Midnight snack.

This is because three hours prior you sleep, your body goes into fat-storing mode.
