Malaysian ministry seeks GST exemption for private specialists
The Malaysian Health Ministry is seeking Goods and Services Tax (GST) exemption for private specialists who are not employees of hospitals.
Deputy Health Minister said this was to prevent confusion as health services rendered to the final consumer were exempted from the tax system.
“We are working with the Finance Ministry and Customs Department on the matter,” he told reporters after launching a Sustainable Environment Campaign at Penang National Park in Teluk Bahang here yesterday.
He said the ministry was also awaiting exemption approval for 3,000 more types of medicines on top of more than 4,200 types exempted under the National Essential Medicines List.
He said 120 types of medical equipment as well as more than 25,000 disposable items were also exempted from GST to assist the private health care sector reduce their cost of service. – Bernama
