Outbreak of H5N8 bird flu virus hits Taiwan
An outbreak of the highly dangerous H5N8 bird flu virus has hit Taiwan.
According to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the outbreak started on January 8 at a farm in Chiayi County killing 3,683 out of 5,200 birds.
Recently, the outbreak of the less dangerous H5N2 virus hit Taiwan. As a result, 120,000 chickens were culled.
The strain is the same as in other cases found in Europe, North America and elsewhere in Asia in the past year.
Recently, the virus scare led to the culling of 15, 000 chickens in Hong Kong alone.
