Columbia Asia Hospital (Klang) launches dialysis treatment service

The number of renal failure patients needing dialysis in Malaysia is expected to reach nearly 106,000 by 2040, according to the National Dialysis and Transplant Registry. To fulfil dialysis needs for this increasing number of people, Columbia Asia Group of private hospitals has started up its first dialysis centre in Klang, launched earlier this month.

The Columbia Asia Hospital – Klang, located at Mutiara Bukit Raja, off Jalan Meru, is equipped with efficient and advanced systems: the dialysis machines are readily installed with an integrated Therapy Data Management System, such that enables the medical team to track and monitor patient information from pre- to post-dialysis procedures and treatment and medication data.

Among the factors which sets this centre apart from others is a dedicated dietician ready on site to provide consultation to the dialysis patients, who will also be supervising their menu and food intake to ensure proper nutrition.

Other departments within the centre include 24-hour Emergency and laboratory services. For the treatment itself, each cubicle with a dialysis machine comes with a reclining chair, television set and a side tray; refreshments and parking are complimentary.

Consultant Internal Medicine Physician & Nephrologist, Dr. T. Kalaiselvam Thevandran heads the dialysis center at Columbia Asia Hospital – Klang while day-to-day operations are run by an experienced team of nurses trained in renal care.

“With the opening of the new dialysis center at Columbia Asia Hospital – Klang, we hope to fulfil the demands of dialysis services in Klang and surrounding areas,” said the hospital’s General Manager, Wong Wai Mun at the launch.

“Our mission statement is ‘We have a passion for making people better.’ As such, our objective is to provide the community with effective dialysis services, focusing on patients’ safety as well as quality of service. These are our top priorities. By adding another type of health service in this hospital, we hope to make our healthcare services not only more convenient and accessible, but also more comprehensive,” said Wong.

Also present at the launch event was Columbia Asia Group CEO, Dr. Chan Boon Kheng: “Columbia Asia has another mission and that is to bring the message of prevention and kidney health home. Kidney disease can be prevented, and if detected early, can be controlled. The march towards end-stage renal failure and dialysis is not inevitable. Awareness, prevention, and early detection are the other strategies in managing kidney diseases.”
