Foods to avoid if you have asthma

It is necessary to make substantial changes in one’s diet if one suffers from Asthma. It is mandatory for an to include considerable proportions of vegetables and fruits in one’s diet.

There are certain types of dietary items that need to be included while certain types of dietary items need to be excluded if one suffers from Asthma. It is always recommended to avoid from food allergens. The food substances that are known to create an allergic reaction in the human body should be avoided under all circumstances.Food allergens need to be avoided under all circumstances as it increases the probability of one being affected by asthma attacks. Some of the food items that cause allergic reactions include fish, eggs, milk and shellfish.

It is always recommended to refrain from the intake of white food. White food including refined sugar, white bread and white rice should be avoided by individuals suffering from Asthma. One is more likely to gain excess weight by consuming white foods. The starchy nature of the above-mentioned white food is the main reason for an individual gaining excess weight. Whole meal food and brown rice are considered to be a good substitute for white food.

Avoid Mucus Producing Foods

Asthma can get aggravated by the excess production of mucus as well. There are certain foods that are known to cause excess production of mucus. Excess mucus causing food items that need to be avoided under all circumstances include cheese, chocolate and dairy products.The above-mentioned food items are known to aggravate the possibility of Asthmatic tendency in an individual. Mucus producing foods aggravate Asthmatic tendency by means of blocking airways of the nasal passage.

Other Prohibited Food Items

Some of the other food items that should be avoided by Asthma patients include soy products, eggs, citrus fruits and wheat. People who are known to suffer from Asthma should avoid the intake of eggs as well. There are certain varieties of citrus fruits that should not be consumed by Asthma patients as well.Persons who cannot resist from the consumption of the above-mentioned food items should make sure that eating rate is not too frequent. It also needs to be mentioned that consumption of nuts can increase of the possibility of Asthma. So, it is always a preferable option to refrain from the intake of nuts.

Staying away from acidic foods is also suggested for patients affected with asthma. Acidic foods cannot be easily digested by human body hence increases the probability of Asthmatic tendency. It is always a preferable option to opt for boiled/baked food items. Glassy drink items are also known to aggravate the Asthmatic tendency and hence needs to be avoided as well.It needs to be borne in mind that adjusting one’s diet is simply not enough in controlling Asthma. Ensuring a proper diet can go a long way in helping one to minimize the symptoms of Asthma considerably. Other possible measures that need to be taken include leading active lifestyle, performing breathing exercises and asthma proofing one’s home residences.
