Personalised breast cancer treatment? Possible
Scientists from A*Star and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have identified a unique gene that could help doctors prescribe personalised treatments for different cases of breast cancer – the most common cancer among Singaporean women.
By examining the levels of this gene, known as DP103, doctors can predict a patient’s likelihood of suffering a relapse and the probability of her responding to chemotherapy.
The discovery was a collaborative effort by scientists from A*Star’s Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology and the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore at NUS.
