Untreated UTI could impair kidneys

January 6, 2015

Urinary tract infection (UTI) happens when the system that expels urine from the body – kidneys, bladders and tubes – are infected by germs. Some studies indicate that half of the women population worldwide are most likely to develop the disease in their lifetime.

How dangerous is UTI?

It is not serious if bladder infections occur and are treated promptly. However, it is a serious case if infection spreads to kidneys.

Symptoms

  • Painful or burning sensation during urination
  • Pain in the lower abdomen.
  • Frequent urination.
  • Foul-smelling urine.
  • Some people may have no symptoms
  • When it affects the kidneys, the following symptoms can be found:

  • Pain on either side of the lower back
  • Fever and chills
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Seek treatment immediately if you think you have UTI.
