Malaysia sees significant decline in influenza cases
Malaysia is seeing a significant decline in influenza cases, according to a statement from the Health Ministry.
The ministry, in a statement on Monday (Oct 27), stated that the country experienced a notable decline in both influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) during the 43rd epidemiological week of 2025 (ME 43/2025), which was from Oct 19 to 25.
ILI consultations decreased from 9.68% to 8.18%, while SARI admissions declined slightly from 10.56% to 10.45% compared to the previous week.
The ministry also confirmed that no new mutations of the influenza virus have been detected through ongoing genomic sequencing.
The Health Ministry’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) reported 30 influenza-related clusters nationwide during the same week, a sharp 86% decline compared to the previous week.
Schools, however, continue to account for the majority of clusters, making up 15 out of 30 recorded cases, although this represents a 90% reduction from earlier numbers.
